A tribute to the 'Chandrayaan' Mission The Moon Here is the story of a friend of mine, One who meets me every night. Peeping through my window pane, He waves at me; he winks at me. As he glides past the misty sky, He invites me for hide and seek. Sometimes round, some times curved; At times sailing like a little boat. We joke and play through the night, And part ways when the dawn breaks out. It is such a pretty sight indeed - To see the moon glow on a cloudy sky. The lakes sparkle, the crickets chirp, Lo, like magic the night changes! His smile fills my room with snowy light, The scary night turns bright and right. The dew drops shine, the trees glow, And the lawn ahead turns hazy blue. As he slowly dances by, he whispers A very good night and a great day too! Waving back, I always think "What a good friend he is to have!" Once a while he does play foul, And appear not for a day or two! The night plunges into darker hues, Everything turns rather dull and scary too! I huddle under the quilt, but sleep eludes; My mood sours as boredom strikes. Just when I ponder "What could be wrong?" There he comes again as a tiny speck! He grows and grows and in two weeks time, He is my chubby-bubbly pal again! Who beams at me and cheers me up, while I slog the night with my home work pile! The Moon had always puzzled the world We hear a lot about him from all around. Grandma's tales range far and wide, Where the Moon King rules the sky at night. Grandpa flips his almanac and astro- books, And speaks of the Moon's mystic power. Teacher tells me the Moon is small: But smart he needs to be, for sure For he pull the seas around with mighty tides! Dad tells me that Indian science Has long unraveled this night rider, Who goes around never turning his face! Scientists says, he is not what that meets the eye, He is close, so he just looks huge. He is in fact a little dwarf with no light at all Who shines the rays from the mighty Sun! A barren land with little water or air, With craters deep and rocky hills. Just dry sand and rock scattered all round, He is no fluffy doll rather an ugly sight, they say!! For all the pictures they paint of him The moon will still be my cutie pie! I still find him great and sweet Such a nice pal miles away! We meet and greet as the day rolls by, And share our stories every night. In thick and thin, fun and fall, The Moon has remained my trusted pal Who holds a place in my mind and soul! The rolling years did change me a lot, New hobbies, new habits and new buddies came, Still my lunar mate stayed just the same! Now when I say this, I realize that He too seems to have changed these days! My pal seems closer than ever before, A lot sweeter and a shade prouder too! Could it be my eyes playing a trick? Or is there something more, I ponder. Dad showed me the daily news and TV flash ISRO, Lead by a famed CET ian; Backed by India's best of brains; Inspired by a billion hopes and prayers; Has launched 'Chandrayaan' to probe the Moon And seek and find its hidden truths. Million miles and flying right, It does raise our nation's spirits bright! As the world watches with bated eyes, We show them our India's might. And soon an Indian would walk the Moon, And then there would be no looking back. All those gadgets and studies done, Does surely bring him up- close and clear; All those pictures taken daily would, Make any one feel proud indeed! What else, but our pretty tri color- Could give my pal that new majestic look! Hats off to the Chandrayan team, For making a nation's dream come true! It is a proud moment for CET family too, To see her son's name soar the skies; Your feat has made us strong and bold, To dare to aim beyond the moon; You have turned my friend next door, Into a real family member, for sure! Now, the pal who peered and played every night Is truly our own 'Chanda-mama' in the sky!!
