Which one

Both are
good..just that there has to be a lot of understanding between the two…
One is not
superior to another, it’s a compromise. But Love marriage has an edge
slightly!
In case if
your children get involved in an affair and express intention for marriage, what
would be your reaction?
Of course
it is their choice…
Would agree
readily.

Chembarathy poove chollu, maarane nee kando…??”
recollections by the ceta couple
1978
October College of Engineering, Trivandrum
First
Semester…. Initial days were exciting and filled with the charm of discovering
new friends, heart swelled with pride at having taken the first step to be an
“Engineer” (though the seniors quickly put an end to such glamorous
dreams! ) …It was then I saw this girl in a red trouser and a checkered
red/black shirt, with hair plaited in two, traipsing along the corridors of the
first floor in college and somewhere, somehow within me I felt a strong
tug…. Two months later College closed for Christmas and I pined
away..missing her sorely!!!! That is when, I guess I realised I
loved her. ( Prabod)
Sometime in
1980
Kerala University library. We were regulars there, browsing
various books while scrambling to keep up with assignments, but more importantly
a secure meeting place that would not make eyebrows climb the arch. On one such
day we were talking to each in the corridors after study. In between, he
tugged at one of the rain soaked branches of the Hibiscus (Chembarathy)
plant, and the cold droplets fell in a spray on me. It thrilled me no end
and I knew I was falling in love!! (Shivaja)
(As told to him,
much later in life, on one of those lovely evenings they spent together after
marriage)
1978 October
It was common
to see the boys of Mechanical Engg branch in Civil Engg classrooms, and he also
frequented Civil classroom. One day as she was entering the class, she saw
him at her desk. She replied “Shivaja” to his question “ What is your name?”.
His quick repartee “Oh I thought it was Shivaji!” made her giggle. The ice
was broken and there started a friendship that turned to love, marriage and a
life long companionship. Of course it helped that a mutual friend told her about
his penchant for writing poems. And she loved reading poems.
( Circa
2008, there is a role reversal..She writes, He enjoys reading them
..)
Classmates opposed, didn’t like a boy from another class getting
close to a girl in their class. Professors frowned at them, for openly talking
anywhere, anytime in the college. In spite of all the opposition
they stood by their stand. It was a much talked about affair of the town
those days.
However, as years passed everyone started accepting them as
a pair.
They spent practically every moment together as much as was
possible. She set a challenge to him to try and outscore her and he did, from S2
to S7. They went into S8 with him leading by 58 marks in the total tally. Come
S8 results, she scored 67 more than him!!!
She has never let him forget
that he lost, ever since !!!!!!! Hahahahahahahaha
