Leaving my home in Dubai, not knowing what to expect when I reach the top of Europe, is how my vacation began to SWITZERLAND!!
On the way to the Airport, on the first of July was how my journey began.I always wanted to visit Switzerland, so finally I was going there we passed immigration, security and jumped on the plane.
We arrived in Switzerland and the best part over there was that, there was a railway station right below the airport so we went on the train, which took about and hour to reach our destination, Interlaken.
We reached there around 10 ‘o’ clock in the night, and to mine and everybody else’s surprise it was still daylight outside with the sun about to set. Tired after a long journey, we had a five minute walk from the railway station to the hotel Beau Site, which had a beautiful view of mountains and greenery from the windows, but the best part of the hotel was the food.(yummy)
Next day morning the real trip began, we were on our way to the TOP OF EUROPE-JUNGFRAUJOCH. All my life I always wanted to see snow, so finally I got the chance. The journey to the top of the mountain by train was an exciting one. On the way there were cows in the valley, small houses everywhere, waterfalls and cable cars, and it was getting colder as we got higher. Finally we reached our destination and there were a lot of places to see over there. So first we went to the Ice Palace, and it was very cold in there. Everything in there was made of ice, the ceiling, the walls and even the floors. There were ice sculptures all around. We were lucky that none of us slipped.
After the ice palace we went to the highest mountain of Europe-Jungfraujoch. It was a hard climb up. Though it was by stairs and getting colder and colder (around 1 degree Celsius), the view from above was all worth the climb. We could see major part of Switzerland, it is more than 11333 ft (3454m) above sea level.
The feeling of touching the snow and having a snowball fight with my brother was the best. I wanted to stay there all day, but no one was allowed after 5pm because it gets too cold, so we had to return back.
The next day we went to Geneva for a one day tour on a tram, it was really nice going on a mini train on the roads of the city. We got to see houses that belong to celebrities, but the best part of Geneva was visiting the United Nations, WHO headquarters etc.
The next day we went to Mt.Pilatus, which is another mountain in Switzerland. As good as the place, getting there was even more interesting. It started by a 1 hour cruise on a boat towards the mountain. The sights around us were very beautiful. We went on the cogwheel railway, which is the steepest railway in the world.
It was scary going up the really steep mountains. To our surprise we saw cows and goats up in the mountains. After a 20 minute travel, we finally reached Mt.Pilatius. The view was so breathtaking and the place so high, that we could actually feel the clouds pass by us. We spent the whole afternoon there just admiring the view, and finally we had to go back.
The way down was not by the train but by the cable car, which was really exciting and the last time to enjoy because after that I knew I was going to go home, So we went back to the hotel packed our bags, and headed off to the Zurich airport.
Since we were 4 hours early, we got a chance to tour Zurich. Afterwards we went to the airport and got on the plane. As it took of everyone had a last glimpse outside the window hoping to come back another day.
